Joel Frye has been writing highly charged,
personal poetry and songs for 35 years, and
has been performing both for 30 years...and
no, that doesn't make him as old as you may
be thinking.
Growing up as an old soul in Syracuse, NY, and
observing human nature and behavior at an early
age gave Joel much of the material he writes.
Known mainly as a professional musician, he
has shared his poetry at open mikes and writing
groups, and made copies of his work available
only to friends until now.
When asked what differentiates a poem and song
lyric, Joel explains that "a poem is a
complete logical and emotional expression of
an experience or an idea, whereas the lyric
needs the music to complete its content."
Joel has performed locally since 1992, beginning
at the CAMS coffeehouse in Pinellas Park, where
he met local poet B.G. McCann and collaborated
on a poetic suite entitled "Warehouse",
which was featured as a cable television presentation
and was a national finalist for an ACE award
in 1994.
Now a professional performer and music director
at the Unitarian Universalist Church of St.
Petersburg, FL, he has been backed into a corner
by a snarling...eh...er...I mean, persuaded
by Nubzilla to submit his poetry to a larger
audience.
