My name is Michael Abrahams. I was born in
1955 in Newark N.J. I was never really aware
of my ability to see things in a different way
than most others do, but in my mid to late teens
I would frequently find myself thinking, "That
would make a great photo." So I did what
only seemed logical and bought myself a camera.
That was in the spring of 1972. I carried that
camera everywhere I went. When I saw that image
and had that thought I was able to take out
my camera and capture that moment forever.
I have never taken a lesson or even read books
about "How to take a nice photograph"
but taught myself from experimentation. It did
not take me long at all to know how to get what
type of background or foreground, or what was
detracting in the photo itself.
I have been complimented on my work for many
years and urged to show it, but never acted
upon those suggestions until now. So I recently
sat down with my 30 years of negatives and compiled
some of my favorite shots. They can be seen
on my website.
I do not concentrate on one particular theme,
I see the beauty around in so many different
forms. Whether it be a sunset or an animal,
a building or a landscape.... I have no boundaries.
Growing up 20 minutes from NYC I always found
The World Trade Center a wonderful place to
photograph. In many of my shots it can be viewed
in the background. From the top of the Towers
itself came a feeling that cannot be expressed
enough. Especially now.
The wonderful thing about photography to me
is how one person may pass up one photo without
looking twice, and someone else is just wooed
by the same shot.
