Hi folks my name
is James Hawkins and I'm a songwriter, and a folksinger
to boot! I arrived in Florida about 25 years ago
from my home state of Kentucky. When I arrived
of the Florida Folk scene Will McLean, Gamble
Rodgers and Don Grooms were all alive
and I had only written one song. Since that time
Will, Gamble and Don have all passed on to play
that great gig in the sky and I have written over
50 songs. I have had 8 songs recorded by 7 Florida
Folk artists and if you ever go into the "White
Lion" in St. Augustine on a Sunday night
you will hear my song "Swept Away" being
played by Bob Patterson, who has performed there
for over 12 years. My songs have been included
on three songwriter compilations, two
by the Friends of Florida Folk www.foff.org and one
on a new completion by the Tampa/St. Petersburg
chapter of Just Plain Folks www.justplainfolks.org.
When I first started performing my first baptism
of fire was opening for Eric Taylor at the Ironworks
in Lakeland for the late Joe Prine. Since then
I have performed at the Barberville Folk &
Arts Festival, South Florida Folk Festival, Lake
County Folk Festival, Gamble Rodgers Folk Festival,
Sarasota Music Festival, Will McLean Festival
and the RavineFest in Palatka. How would you describe
my music? Well I have been asked that a lot and
I would say it is a mix of Woody Guthrie, John
Gorka with a touch of Bob Dylan. As of now I have
three CD's Turn Back Time, Batty and On the Plumb.
My website is www.JRHawkins.com stop by and
say HOWDY.

"I believe
in things that are done from the ground up and
this is what Nubzilla represents, a true grass
roots organization with the purpose of helping
the small independent artist get known. Everybody
no matter how famous stared at the bottom and
over time clawed, kicked and scratched their way
to where they are now. Without the vital exposure
provided by organizations like Nubzilla so many
songwriters and performers would flounder and
either move away or just give up in disgust.
I thank God that Nubzilla is right here in our
backyard constantly providing the much needed
support that independent artists need. Thank you,
thank you, thank you."
